Dunki was shot for 75 days and Punjab locations were created in Mumbai and Sholapur

As per a report in Dainik Bhaskar, the film could not be shot in the actual locations of Punjab due to various challenges. Instead, the makers of ‘Dunki‘ created sets that resembled Punjab in Mumbai and Sholapur.

Sources confirmed this and said that big stars often face such issues due to the crowd gathering at the shooting site and the clash of dates with their other films. In Shah Rukh‘s case, both these factors were present. He could not visit live locations in Punjab without causing crowd management problems. Moreover, he was also busy with the shoot of ‘Jawan’ simultaneously. Therefore, the makers of ‘Dunki’ decided to prepare locations like Punjab in Mumbai and nearby areas.

Sources further revealed that the film ‘Dunki‘ was shot for a total of 75 days.

Lalton Kalan village was recreated in Mumbai Film City for Dunki

Sources revealed that the makers of ‘Dunki‘ shot the Punjab scenes in Mumbai and Sholapur. The village of Punjab where the characters of Shah Rukh, Vicky, Taapsee and other actors belong was created in Mumbai’s Film City.

The name of that village is Lalton Kalan. Most of the youth from there go abroad to earn money. This is similar to the situation of Sakkanwali village of Punjab, which is known as the NRI village because of the large number of youth working overseas. The film shows this aspect of Lalton Kalan village. In Film City, a village mohalla, market and coaching centers were set up on an area of 4-5 acres.

Dunki’s Akhara scenes were shot in Sholapur

Sources further revealed that the film ‘Dunki‘ was shot for a total of 75 days. The Akhara scenes were shot in Sholapur. That arena is visible in the first teaser video of the film.

For that, the makers chose Sholapur area of Maharashtra, where they could find a flat terrain like Punjab, because the village of Punjab that is shown in the film does not have hills. Therefore, the makers did not go to Wai area of Maharashtra, which is surrounded by hills on all sides.

Dunki was shot for 7 to 8 days in Jeddah and 14 to 15 days in Budapest

Apart from Mumbai and Sholapur, the makers also shot it in London, Budapest and Jeddah. The cast shot in Jeddah for about 7 to 8 days. In the film, when the main character and his friends leave for England by road, that journey was filmed there.

As per the abroad schedule, shooting was done for 14 to 15 days in Budapest. The makers shot for only 3-4 days in London. They captured as many of the iconic buildings as possible in the London schedule. The film portrays the attraction of those buildings for the youth who visit there from Punjab or any other area.

Dunki is slated to release on December 21, 2023, clashing with Prabhas-starrer Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire, directed by Prashanth Neel. The film marks SRK’s first collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani, and his third release this year, after Pathaan and Jawan, which were both blockbuster hits.
