Farah Khan REVEALS Shah Rukh Khan Was A Great Help During Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa Shoot: ‘Budget Was Very Low, He Was Paid Rs 25K’
Farah Khan recently shared her experiences working with Shah Rukh Khan on the film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and reminisced about their first meeting. The filmmaker-choreographer recalled how she knew immediately that they would get along well.
She also shared anecdotes from the film’s production, highlighting Shah Rukh’s significant contributions despite the limited budget.
Farah Khan Says It Felt Like Friends From School With Shah Rukh Khan
In an interview with Radio Nasha, Farah recounted their initial encounter, saying, “We started the shoot in 1991, and I was also new. We were in Goa, and I’d only read an interview of Shah Rukh in which he sounded very brash and arrogant. I was very scared. I remember what he was wearing and doing when we first met; Kundan Shah introduced us. Sometimes, you instantly hit it off with somebody. You feel like you’re friends from school. That’s what it was like with Shah Rukh. We had the same interests, we’d read the same books, we had the same sense of humour.”
SRK Became Farah’s Assistant, Charged Only 25K For Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa Due To Low Budget
Farah revealed that the production of Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was quite challenging due to financial constraints. “The budget was very low. Shah Rukh was paid Rs 25,000 for that movie. I was the highest-paid person in that movie, let me tell you. I was paid Rs 5,000 per song, and there were six songs. Just because of that, I was paid Rs 30,000. We couldn’t even afford an assistant,” she explained.
SRK, according to Farah, was extremely supportive during the shoot. She shared a memorable instance involving the song “Aana Mere Pyar Ko”, where they had to cast regular people from Goa as extras. Since these extras were unfamiliar with taking cues or hitting marks, Shah Rukh would pinch them one by one as a signal to rise up from behind a wall in the song. This hands-on approach demonstrated Shah Rukh’s dedication and willingness to go the extra mile.
Further Collaborations Of Shah Rukh Khan With Farah Khan
Farah and Shah Rukh’s collaboration didn’t end with Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. Farah went on to direct Shah Rukh in three major films — Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, and Happy New Year. Despite a period in the late 2000s and early 2010s when they weren’t on speaking terms, the two have since reconciled and continue to share a strong bond.
