Jun 30, 2024

Kanguva makers recently dropped the release date for the highly anticipated Suriya-starrer after a long wait. Directed by Siva, the film is set to hit theatres worldwide on October 10, just in time for Dussera.

Adding to the excitement, this release comes only a day before Alia Bhatt‘s Jigra hits the screens, promising a thrilling box-office showdown. Check out some other EPIC box office clashes set to take place in late 2024.

Apart from  Kanguva vs Jigra, here are some major BO clashes:

Indian 2 vs Sarfira

The long-awaited Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan, is finally set for release on July 12 after multiple delays. Directed by S Shankar, the film faced setbacks due to Shankar’s other project, Game Changer, with Ram Charan and Kiara Advani. As the sequel to the 1996 classic Indian, expectations are high, though the trailer has received mixed reviews.

On the same day, Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira will also be released. This film is a Bollywood remake of the Tamil hit Soorarai Pottru, with Suriya producing. The trailer and songs like “Maar Udi” and “Khudaya” have been well-received, building anticipation.

Stree 2 vs Khel Khel Mein

August 15 will see the return of Shraddha Kapoor in Stree 2, the sequel to the 2016 hit Stree. The original cast is back, with Tamannaah Bhatia making a cameo. The teaser has created a buzz online, and fans are eagerly waiting for its Independence Day release.

Competing with Stree 2 is Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, also releasing on August 15. Featuring an ensemble cast including Taapsee Pannu, Amy Virk, and Fardeen Khan, the film’s release date was moved up to take advantage of the holiday.

Devara vs They Call Him OG

Jr NTR’s Devara: Part 1, initially set for an April release, has been rescheduled for September 27. Directed by Koratala Siva, the film’s first single, “Fear Song”, has been well-received. This will be Jr NTR’s first film since the success of RRR, and he is expected to play a double role.

Competing with Devara is Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG, also slated for September 27. Directed by Sujeeth, the film faced delays due to Kalyan’s political commitments. Despite rumours of another delay to 2025, no official confirmation has been made.

Additionally, Dulquer Salmaan’s Lucky Bhaskar, also set for September 27, could impact the box office performance of the other releases. Dulquer recently surprised fans with a cameo in Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD.

Pushpa 2: The Rule vs Chhava

One of the biggest surprises this year was the postponement of Pushpa 2: The Rule. Directed by Sukumar, the sequel featuring Allu Arjun in his National Award-winning role will now release on December 6. Rashmika Mandanna returns as Srivalli, adding to the anticipation.

Also released on December 6 is Vicky Kaushal’s Chhava, where he plays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna.

With these major releases lined up, the second half of the year promises an exciting time for cinema lovers, with numerous high-stakes box-office battles to look forward to.
