Ulajh Box Office Collection Day 1: Janhvi Kapoor’s Political Thriller Opens With Mere Rs 1.37 Cr, One Of The Biggest FLOP Of Her Career
Janhvi Kapoor’s latest film Ulajh had a rocky start at the box office on its opening day. The spy thriller, featuring a notable cast including Roshan Mathew and Gulshan Deviah, raked in only Rs 1.37 crore on its first day. The lukewarm reception was mirrored in its underwhelming box office numbers.
Ulajh Opens With Disastrous 1.37 Cr, Could Be The Biggest FLOP Of Janhvi’s Career
Ulajh is Janhvi Kapoor’s fifth film since her debut in 2018 and her second theatrical release this year, following Mr and Mrs Mahi. While Mr and Mrs Mahi opened strong with Rs 7 crore, Ulajh is struggling. Kapoor’s previous film Mili had a dismal opening of Rs 50 lakh. Though Mili opened lower than Ulajh, the budget of Ulajh is higher, which makes it a sure-shot disaster and the bigger flop, seeing the opening number.
On its first day, Ulajh had an overall occupancy rate of 18 per cent, with a slightly better turnout of 20.78 per cent for its night shows. The occupancy was particularly low in Mumbai, with only 13.75 per cent of seats filled across 293 shows. In Delhi and NCR, the film had an even lower occupancy rate of 11.75 per cent from 343 shows.
Deadpool & Wolverine Earns Better Than Combined Collection Of Ulajh & Ajay Devgn’s AMKDT
The film’s performance is further hindered by competition from Deadpool and Wolverine, which continues to draw crowds in its second weekend. On its second Friday, Deadpool and Wolverine earned Rs 4 plus crore, surpassing the combined earnings of Ulajh and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha.
Additionally, Ulajh had limited showings due to its clash with Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, which managed to make Rs 1.85 crore on its first day. The competition from other films and a lack of buzz around Ulajh have affected its performance.
Ulajh had poor pre-sales, with fewer than 750 tickets sold across the top three national chains before its release. This disappointing start suggests that the film might struggle to achieve significant box-office success.
If Ulajh fails to gain momentum over the weekend, it could end up being one of Janhvi Kapoor’s biggest flops. Projections suggest it might not surpass Rs 4 crore in its opening weekend and could struggle to reach an Rs 8 crore lifetime total, a blow to Kapoor’s career.
