‘Sar Kaat Sakte Hain!’ Kangana Ranaut Receives DEATH Threats Ahead Of Emergency Release, Requests Police To Take Action

Aug 27, 2024

Kangana Ranaut is no stranger to controversy, and her upcoming film Emergency has stirred up quite a storm. As the release date draws near, the actress has reported receiving death threats.

She has also urged police in Maharashtra, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh to take immediate action.

Ban Demanded On Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency For Portraying Sikhs In Negative Light

Ranaut, who not only stars in but also directs Emergency, is facing intense criticism, particularly from the Sikh community. The film, which centres around former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the 1975 Emergency, has been accused of portraying Sikhs in a negative light.

Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has been vocal about his disapproval, demanding a ban on the film. He argues that Emergency misrepresents Sikhs and perpetuates harmful stereotypes that could have far-reaching effects.

This backlash is not entirely new for Ranaut, who has faced criticism before for remarks that were perceived as anti-Sikh and anti-Punjab. These past controversies have only fuelled the anger surrounding her latest project.

A Viral Video Shows Kangana Ranaut Receiving Death Threats, Actress Seeks Help From Police

Things took a darker turn when a video featuring Punjabi influencer Viky Thomas Singh began circulating on social media. In the video, Singh issued a chilling threat to Ranaut, referencing violent historical figures. His words, “Agar hum sar katwa sakte hain toh sar kaat bhi sakte hain” (If we can sacrifice our heads, we can also take heads), have sent shockwaves across the internet.

Another man in the same video warned that if the film is released, Ranaut could face violence not just from Sikhs but from people of other faiths as well. The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread concern and putting Ranaut’s safety in the spotlight.

Ranaut took to social media to appeal for police protection. She tagged the official accounts of the police departments in Maharashtra, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, urging them to investigate the threats and ensure her safety. “Please look into this,” she wrote.

Despite the controversy, Emergency is still set to hit cinemas nationwide on 6 September 2024. The film boasts an impressive cast, with veterans like Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and Shreyas Talpade playing key roles.
