Emergency Postponed! Kangana Ranaut Informs Her Team Is Still ‘Waiting’ Amid Certification Delay, New Date To Be Announced Soon

Sep 6, 2024

Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated film Emergency has hit a roadblock, causing its release to be pushed back.

Originally scheduled for September 6, 2024, the film’s debut has been delayed due to certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Kangana Ranaut APOLOGISES To Fans For Delay In Emergency Release

On Friday, Kangana took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to share the news with her fans.

“With a heavy heart, I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed. We are still waiting for certification from the censor board. The new release date will be announced soon. Thank you for your understanding and patience (sic),” Kangana wrote.

The film’s postponement follows a recent ruling from the Bombay High Court. The court decided not to intervene after the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s directive for the CBFC to review objections against the film before granting certification. The CBFC has been instructed to decide by September 18.

Kangana Ranaut VOWED To Fight For Her Film

Kangana had previously expressed her frustration over the delay. Speaking to ANI, she said, “It’s getting too late. I hope the film is released on time. Otherwise, I am determined to fight for it. I am determined to even go to court to protect my film and my rights as an individual. You can’t change history and scare us with threats.”

She added, “We have to show history. An almost 70-year-old woman was shot 30-35 times in her house. Someone must have killed her. Now, you want to show it, because apparently, you think you can hurt someone. But you have to show history. So how did she die?”

About Emergency

Emergency explores the controversial period of the Indian Emergency, imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977. This era is considered one of the darkest in Indian democracy, characterised by the suspension of civil liberties, press censorship, and political repression.

This film, which marks Kangana Ranaut’s second directorial venture, stars a notable cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik.

Produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti, the film’s music is composed by Sanchit Balhara and G V Prakash Kumar, with Ritesh Shah handling the screenplay and dialogues.
