Ramayana Update: Ranbir Kapoor To Have Double Role As Lord Vishnu’s Avatars, Amitabh To Voice For Bird ‘Jatayu’

Sep 10, 2024

The latest update on Ramayana is here! Ranbir Kapoor is stepping into a double role again, but this time, it’s bigger. After Shamshera and Animal, the actor will portray both Lord Ram and Parashuram in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana.

It’s an epic tale with Ranbir bringing two avatars of Lord Vishnu to life. Sources close to the project told Peeping Moon that Parashuram’s role, though brief, is crucial to the storyline.

“In the Ramayana, Parashuram had a conflict with Ram after Shiva’s bow, Pinaka, was broken. He challenges Ram to bend Vishnu’s bow, and upon witnessing Ram succeed, he acknowledges Ram as an incarnation of Vishnu and retreats to his penance. Although Parashuram’s role in the epic is brief, it holds significant importance, and the filmmakers have ensured it reflects that. Ranbir will have a completely distinct and unrecognizable look as Parashuram,” an insider revealed.

Amitabh Bachchan To Lend His Voice For Divine Bird Jatayu

Adding more star power to the project, Amitabh Bachchan has joined the ensemble cast. While he won’t appear physically on screen, he will lend his voice to Jatayu, the divine bird.

In this role, Jatayu fights Ravana in a bid to save Goddess Sita, but loses his wings. To make Jatayu’s portrayal even more realistic, the filmmakers have scanned Bachchan’s eyes for visual effects. This mythological saga is not just grand in scale but also in its casting.

More About The Film

The film is set to be a two-part project with a budget of a whopping $100 million. Produced by Namit Malhotra of DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, this project is set to be one of the biggest mythological epics ever made in India. Their goal is to create a film that resonates globally, yet still fills Indian hearts with pride.

After five years of meticulous planning, filming kicked off in April. The project is set to wrap in November, and the team is aiming for a massive worldwide release in 2026.

The first part of the film will focus on the early years of Lord Ram and Sita, including their marriage and exile. The second part promises an epic showdown with Ravana.

The cast lineup is nothing short of impressive. Sai Pallavi plays the role of Goddess Sita, while Yash takes on the role of the villain, Ravana. Sunny Deol is stepping into the shoes of Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey will play Laxman. Lara Dutta is cast as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha, and Arun Govil as Dashrath. Kunal Kapoor, Harman Baweja, and Shishir Sharma round off the stellar cast, with Kunal playing Indra Dev, Harman as Vibhishan, and Shishir as Guru Vasishtha.
