Ananya Panday’s CTRL Sequel In Works? Vikram Aditya Answers As He Reveals Changing The Ending From 1st Draft Due To THIS Reason
Vikramaditya Motwane‘s CTRL featuring Ananya Panday has just dropped on Netflix and is creating quite a buzz.
Recently, the director opened up about the potential for sequels and the reasons behind changing the film’s ending. Originally, Motwane had a different vision for how the story would wrap up.
Vikram Motwane Reveals Changing The Climax Of CTRL
In the first draft, Ananya’s character, Nella, had a vengeful ending. However, Motwane realised this didn’t fit well with the story’s flow or the unique screenlife format they were using.
He told Hindustan Times that this genre imposes certain constraints, making it hard to push the story into a revenge plot. “That’s the moment we realised, why would anyone in that right mind stream this or shoot this? What would be the screenlife element?”.
This led to a significant rewrite, steering the narrative away from a typical climax.
On Discussion About The Film’s Sequel
When asked if Nella might seek revenge in a sequel, Motwane was uncertain. He stated, “Maybe. I don’t know. I don’t buy into a sequel. I think in Nella’s case, she’s doomed. She’s gone down that rabbit hole again.” Motwane believes that CTRL should remain a cautionary tale, rather than evolving into a revenge story.
From the start, Motwane envisioned CTRL as a collaborative effort. He credited much of the film’s authenticity to the contribution of writer Sumukhi Suresh and the performance of Ananya Panday.
Understanding that he might not fully relate to the digital world of young adults, he sought help from those who do. This collaborative approach gave the film a modern feel and resonated well with its target audience.
On Designing AI Portrayal Allen In CTRL
One of the key elements in CTRL is Allen, the artificial intelligence that Nella interacts with. Unlike other famous AI portrayals, Motwane wanted Allen to be relatable and appealing to a wide audience.
Instead of creating a high-concept AI like in Her or Ex Machina, he designed Allen to function like a versatile app. “Allen was designed with the mindset of what a mainstream company would release to the public,” Motwane explained.
Users can choose from different personality traits, making Allen a friendly and adaptable companion rather than a complicated highbrow concept.
CTRL marks the first collaboration between Motwane and Panday. The film features a talented cast, including Vihaan Samat, Devika Vatsa, Kamakshi Bhat, and Aparshakti Khurana. Released on October 4, CTRL is not just a film but a reflection of modern digital challenges faced by young people today.
