Emergency: Despite CBFC’s Clearance, Kangana Ranaut Starrer May Release Only After Punjab Elections – Here’s Why!

Oct 16, 2024

Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency, a political drama based on the 1970s, is facing delays despite being cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The movie was initially set to release on September 7 but has been on hold for over a month.

The makers are now reportedly considering releasing it after the Punjab elections, as the state plays a significant role in the film’s narrative.

Reason Behind Emergency Makers Considering Delay Till Punjab Elections

Emergency dives into the impact of the political emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with a particular focus on its effects on Punjab.

Due to this sensitive subject, some members of the Sikh community have raised concerns about the film’s release during such a crucial political time. The timing of the Punjab elections has added to the complications, and the filmmakers are keen to avoid any backlash.

According to a report from India Today, the film is ready for release, but the team feels it’s best to wait for the elections to pass. A source from the film’s production team said,

“After agreeing to all the terms of the CBFC, the team will most likely release the film after the Punjab elections. The film is really close to everyone’s heart, and the audience should get to watch it. So, after much consideration and to avoid hurting anyone’s sentiments, the team decided to wait for a calmer time. Releasing the film after the elections seems like the best decision for now.”

Despite CBFC approval, which required some cuts to ensure smooth clearance, the filmmakers want to ensure the film is released at the right time, considering the sensitivity around its subject.

They hope that by waiting until the political atmosphere settles, the film will be better received and won’t face unnecessary controversy.

About This Kangana Ranaut Starrer

Emergency stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, portraying Indira Gandhi, the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of India. The film also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, and Vishak Nair in key roles.

Directed by Kangana herself, the movie has generated significant buzz due to its portrayal of a critical period in India’s political history.

While the delay may disappoint fans, the team seems confident that this decision will lead to a more favourable release.
